19 days to go and counting…

February 3, 2013 By Lindy

In just nineteen days, I will be running the Princess half. This week, I only ran a 10K. Having just getting over what I would label as “The worst case of the flu ever!”, I’ve been doing all my running on the dreadmill. Tonight, I’m aiming for a 12-miler after work.

I’ve been playing around with different energy gels and chews and my favorite by far are the Clif ShotBloks. They are tasty, like gummy bears almost, and do not get stuck to my teeth. One pack has six square chews and I find that I can take one square every 3 miles and I’m golden. Any energy supplements you swear by?

Run Disney’s Princess Half Marathon

February 1, 2013 By Lindy Leave a Comment

My first race for this year is the highly-anticipated Disney’s Princess Half Marathon, taking place at Walt Disney World on February 24th, 2013. It is my first Disney race, and my first half-marathon. I am very excited, especially because 1) I get to run in costume (running as Cinderella!) and 2) Another reason to go to Walt Disney World, yay!

I truly dislike running in extremely cold weather, therefore I’ve been doing most of my winter running indoors, on a treadmill and it is quite boring, especially when doing long runs. Anything past 5-6 miles and I’m literally bored to death! I try watching movies on my iPad or listening to music on Pandora or Spotify and that seems to help some, but gosh…

I’ve been training using the Jeff Galloway marathon training schedule and I highly recommend it. This is coming from a girl who could barely run a mile last summer and now I can run 10+ miles. It’s very easy to get excited and carried away and start to do too much at once (I know from experience!!!) but slow is the way to go. I’ll try to update this blog frequently.

See you at the finish line!

First Post

February 1, 2013 By Lindy Leave a Comment

I wanted to start blogging my new-found love, running. I’ve always wanted to be a runner but at times I found it boring. Last spring, I went on a week-long trip to Walt Disney World and on our way back, at the Orlando International Airport, I picked up a Runner’s World magazine at a newsstand. It was there that I saw an ad for a Disney race, something I never knew existed and that fact had me intrigued.

I started researching the Disney races and found that during the week we were vacationing, they were having the Expedition Everest race! The following Disney race would probably have been the Wine and Dine but I figured I wouldn’t be “fit” enough to run it. Once registration opened for the 2013 Disney’s Princess Half Marathon, I signed up and the rest is history. New running shoes and a treadmill, and I began to run. This is my journey.

See you at the finish line!
