It’s been a crazy year folks; I am glad it’s about to end.
This year brought a lot of ups and downs – from that left hip injury that caused me to stop running, to the car accident which left my motherย injured badly, to attainingย self-realization and embarking on new and exciting journeys.
Although I didn’t get to run the races I wanted to this year, I made an effort to stay fit by cycling at Flywheel, run/walking in Disney and starting Core de Force, a new MMA-style workout by Beachbody. I do miss running terribly though. All the tests on my left hip have come back normal, so I don’t know what else to do. Some days I wake up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain, other times, I’m fine and able to run 2-3 miles painlessly.
After my parents accident, I took 3 weeks from work to care for them. It was then that I realized the value of friendship. Most the people whom I considered my “friends” didn’t even ask if we were okay or needed anything, and it was challenging for me to care for everyone.
I stumbled uponย a quote that read, “The problem with being the strong one is that nobody asks if you’re okay.” This couldn’t be further from the truth. It made me realize that this happened because I can handle it, and when I broke down with overwhelmingness, I talked about it, and I faced my fears head on. I let go of those individuals who were of no value in my life, and let go of those toxic friendships that brought me anger and grief. Forgiving and letting go is paramount to happiness, and it feels great. ๐
While I don’t have any goals or resolutions for the upcoming new year, if I learned something from this year, and I know it sounds cliche, but it’s not to sweat the small stuff, treasure moments spent with those you love and doing things that make me happy.
Do you have any goals or resolutions for the new year?
Wishing everyoneย happiness and good health in the new year!
Hi Lindy, and this is it! 4 more days and I’ll be hopping on a Frontier airplane, heading down to Orlando! Am excited, but nervous too! The day of the half marathon is supposes to rain! I just hope we don’t game lightning! Started packing this morning but not sure if I’ll take my Disney Princess ears or Minnie Mouse baseball cap! We shall seek hope this year will be better for you, and I’ll let you know what happens this weekend! Good luck to you
How exciting, Kathy! Trust in your training and you’ll do fine. Safe travels and have a wonderful time in Disney!
P.S. Hope it doesn’t rain. It rained during one of my Wine and Dine Half races and it wasn’t pretty. So I’m crossing fingers for you.
Hi, Lindy, and happy New Year! I hope this will be a better year for you. I am in my room at All Star Sports Resort. Love the room but right now I am bummed out! I’m sure you heard about the Disney half being cancelled. But what could we do? They gave us our medals, but it would have been a victory getting them at the finish line! At least I will have my Cleveland Rite Aid half to look forward to.
I hope you have a better year, and you mother and father are coming better! Kathy
Hey, I was thinking about you yesterday when I heard the half was cancelled. It was nice of Disney to offer a refund or a transfer to another race. I do have some friends that ran the half (unofficially) yesterday through the parks and resorts, and some transferred to today’s full.
I’m glad you are looking forward to running the Cleveland Half soon. I may sign up again for Brooklyn in May. Just have to take it one day at a time with this hip.
Enjoy the rest of your trip in WDW. It’s snowing up north ๐
Hi Lindy, I just read your blog, “The Race that did not Happen “! That’s terrible that they didn’t give you anything back!
Was a bummer that ours was cancelled, but at least they gave us choices! Hope to do a Princess ๐ธ race next year, then I may be going to the Daytona 500, as it is the same weekend, with my family! My brother-in-law is very active with NASCAR, in fact, he met Dale Earnhardt, Sr before that race which killed him!
I also saw that the Wine ๐ท and Dine registration just opened, and, as far as I know, all those races are available!
Well, Good Luck in your next race, and LOVE โค๏ธ getting your letters!๐๐๐๐๐
Hi Kathy,
I wasn’t as much upset about getting cancelled, I think we were most upset at how they handled the situation. That’s a race I will never participate in again and from the looks of it, seems that The Electric Run sort of died down.
I will be there for Princess weekend. While it is my least favorite runDisney race, it is an anniversary year for both the Princess Half and anniversary of me running. So it’s a bit special ๐
I’ve been nursing my hip a lot and doing acupuncture and yoga. It does feel better but as soon as I do any sort of cardio, bam, it’s back. I’ll probably need to rest it longer.
Hi Lindy, and I want to wish you good luck ๐ in the Princess ๐ธ Half this weekend! Looks like the weather will be good, too! Have Fun! Kathy
Hey Kathy!
Thanks for the well wishes, but I’ll actually be home this Princess. I start physical therapy this week, so hopefully I’ll be there for the 2018 Princess ๐ How’s your running going?
Aww, Lindy!! What a BUMMER!! Worse than our half getting cancelled! I was at least happy to be down there, and, according to my iPhone, I ran and walked a total of 19.9 miles between running and walking through the airport, resort, park, & trail the entire weekend! So my medal ๐ was earned, but not the way I hoped!
My running is going good, and today I had circuit training with my trainer at Planet Fitness!
I hope your pt is going good for you and that you get back to racing soon!
Hi Lindy, how are you doing? And how is your therapy going? Planning to sign up for 2 of the Virtual Races this Tuesday at 12pm! Hope they don’t sell out! Hope all is well for you
Hi! ๐
I’m well, thanks for asking. Just got back from a much needed vacation. PT is going well; I’m slowly making progress and hope to be running again before summer.
Hope you were able to sign up for the virtual races. Those medals are sweet! How are you doing?
Lindy
Hi Lindy, I am doing great! Signed up for two of the virtual races, June and July! And hope to be able to sign up for the Princess Half, which is May 2nd! Those medals are cute!
I will be doing the Rite Aid Half Marathon, six weeks from Sunday, Easter! This Sunday will be sad as it will be the 2nd Anniversary of our mother’s passing.
I hope you have a great Easter ๐ฃ, and get back to running! Kathy
Hi Lindy, and I just finished the Rite Aid Half Marathon! Might have been my worst time, but was happy that the race went on, as there was lightning โ in the forecast!
Right now, running is the last thing I want to do for the next couple of weeks, but I will get back to it, as I love โค๏ธ it so much! Very sore right now!
I have no intentions of ever giving that up! Hope you are doing well! Your Running ๐ Pen Pal, Kathy
The important thing is that got out there and you finished. Get some much-needed rest; you deserve it. ๐
Hi, Lindy!๐ One down, 2 to go! I just completed my first runDisney Virtual Running ๐ Short in 45 minutes flat! Was happy with the time, but hope to do better next month!! Can’t wait to get the medal ๐ฅ, they are really cute!
Speaking of cute, that bird you showed was a cutie, eating that spaghetti ๐!
Hope everything is well for you, and that you are running pain free ! KIT, Kathy
Don’t be so hard on yourself, Kathy. I think 45 minutes is great, considering you just finished a half marathon. Congratulations on completing both! I did have a sneak peek at the medals and I agree, they are gorgeous.
Thanks for the compliment; that was my rosebreasted cockatoo Hailey. She loves, loves spaghetti ๐
And I hope your hip gets better, too!
Thanks Lindy, can’t do any exercise right now as I just gave blood at my Church’s blood drive! For the last couple weeks I have been walking on treadmill at Planet Fitness, as I want to let my muscles repair from the Half, but I am anxious to start the Virtual Racing Shorts and get my Pluto medals! When is your next ๐, and look forward to hearing from you soon!
Aww Lindy that bird is sooo cute! I take care or two people in their homes that both have parakeets! One likes the short Disney movie, Piper, and the other likes Aerosmith, and dances to thier songs!
I was not always an Aerosmith fan until February 2016, Princess Half Weekend, when I went on the Rock and Rollercoaster by Aerosmith!!!! Since then, I have been downloading their songs!! Along with Heigh Ho and Don’t Stop Believing by Journey, all influenced by that Disney trip! So happy to have Disney!!!
